******** MLC Damien Tudehope urges ICAC to investigate NSW’s CFMEU branch

A leading NSW politician has urged the state’s powerful *********** watchdog to investigate the CFMEU over what he alleged were “potential corrupt activities”.

The powerful union has come under scrutiny across the country after allegations were first aired about alleged organised ****** links within Victoria CFMEU’s construction wing.

The Victorian government has since announced an independent review into the branch, with the CFMEU’s affiliation rights with Labor suspended across four states.

In a letter to ICAC, NSW Legislative Council Opposition Leader Damien Tudehope said recent reports highlighted “significant concerns” about the union’s practices.

He urged the watchdog to investigate what he alleged were attempts to “threaten or influence public officials”, transactions, agreements and employment practices.

“These allegations warrant a thorough investigation and public inquiry by ICAC to ensure full transparency,” Mr Tudehope wrote to NSW ICAC chief commissioner John Hatzistergos.

He added an investigation would uphold “principles and due accountability with regard to the relationship between government, donations to and the control over the ALP”.

The ******** MLC also encouraged ICAC to look into “the presence of any organised ****** elements” as well as allegations of a threat made by the union’s state secretary.

Allegations arose earlier last week that Darren Greenfield had threatened NSW Premier Chris Minn to disclose meetings he had with Labor MPs before and after the last state election.

He claimed “no concerns” had been raised about the CFMEU at any of those meetings.

Nine newspapers last week published hidden camera footage allegedly showing Mr Greenfield receiving a $5000 bribe before the branch was suspended by the ALP.

Mr Greenfield denies any wrongdoing.

Mr Minns had called for the suspension of the state’s CFMEU but dismissed ******** leader Mark Speakman’s criticism of his refusal to refer the union to ICAC himself.
