Scott’s runner-up finish at the Scottish Open and tie for 10th at the British Open on Sunday has propelled Australia’s former world No.1 from 16th to sixth in rankings for the International team. The 44-year-old currently occupies the final automatic qualifying spot on Mike Weir’s team to face the USA at Royal Montreal Golf Club from September 24-29. Scott already holds the International team record for most appearances at the biennial event and will be just one shy of ********* veteran Phil Mickelson’s record 12 appearances if he plays again this year. “I’m just pleased. I’ve been moving a lot of stuff around this year behind the scenes in my head, in my golf bag, and I feel like, seven months in, settled,” Scott said. “I finally feel like I can settle a little bit and work a plan, even though there’s a month left of the season. “I’ll try and make the most of that at least now, and then there’s still the Presidents Cup to look forward to, and hopefully I think I’m in a good spot to play my way on to that team now. “That’s kind of the goal through the FedExCup.” Scott made his Presidents Cup debut in 2003, represented the International team in 2007 at Royal Montreal, and has an overall 18-25-6 record in the event. South Korea’s Sungjae Im posted a ****** seventh at the Open for his best major finish since finishing equal runner-up at the 2020 Masters with Cameron Smith. His Royal Troon result elevated Im to second in the International team standings. Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama retains top spot for the Internationals, ahead of Im, fellow South Korean Tom Kim, *********** Jason Day, Byeong Hun An of South Korea and Scott. The team will also be comprised of six captain’s picks, with the official world rankings being used to determine the six automatic qualifiers based following the completion of the 2024 BMW Championship in Colorado on August 25.
