Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Reportedly Not the Last Square Enix Game to be Getting an Imminent Remake

Square Enix is all set to continue with more remakes, as another title is also on the ropes for a remake soon. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth was released last month, which was the second in the line of recent remakes, and now, thanks to Final Fantasy 14 Director Naoki Yoshida, fans have taken the hint about the next title lined up for a remake.

A remake of Final Fantasy 9 has long been rumored, and with the obvious hints now dropped by Yoshida, fans are hoping for an official announcement soon. A third remake after Rebirth, however, may not happen for another couple of years, going by the recent release schedule.

Final Fantasy 14 Director Yoshida has hinted that the Collector’s Edition holds a secret reference to FF9.

FF7 Remake was released back in 2020 and was followed by FF7 Rebirth this year, four years later. With the recent release, fans may not anticipate another remake for the next few years, but a major hint dropped by Director Naoki Yoshida has got the fans excited about what could be next in line for a remake.

During PAX East, Yoshida announced that players who pre-order the

of FF14‘s expansion, Dawntrail, will get an Ark Mount, a Wind-Up Princess Garnet Minion, and a Wind-Up Zidane Minion, the protagonist of FF9.

While they may not have meant much on their own, Yoshida also announced that there was a reason players may notice the references to FF9, while also saying the “reason is a secret.” This peaked the attention of Final Fantasy fans everywhere, who couldn’t be happier.

Even after Yoshida’s teaser for something related to FF9, fans remain divided over whether or not it will lead to a remake or an anime or movie that’s related to FF9.

Square Enix continues to add more remakes to the roster.

The FF14: Dawntrail expansion is all set to launch on July 2, and beyond that, Square Enix may well be looking at developing the next and final FF7 Remake, which may not arrive for another four years. FF7 Rebirth has so far garnered a lot of positive reviews from old and new fans of the franchise.

Last year, an insider claimed that the next remake could be Final Fantasy 10, which could be scheduled for a 2026 release. This already sounded too good to be true, given that Square Enix still has to complete the FF7 Remake trilogy by 2028.

With the Dawntrail expansion releasing soon, fans still have a lot to look forward to this year. There are new dungeons, trials, raids, and graphical improvements. FF14 Online was recently also released on Xbox Series X|S consoles with a free trial included. There are a bunch of perks awaiting Xbox gamers who purchase either of the 3 available editions of the game.
