Lotto winner confesses mistake after misreading winning ticket

A woman who won division one in Lotto has revealed her mistake after she misread the numbers on her winning ticket.

The woman from Newcastle said she did not look at all the digits and commas properly when she checked her Saturday Lotto ticket and mistook her $1m win for $1000.

“I checked my ticket last night,” the woman said.

“I first thought it was only $1000 – I didn’t look at all the commas.

“I had to ring my sister as I just couldn’t read it properly.”

The woman who does not normally play Saturday Lotto said she just decided to in the last couple of weeks and was now in shock at her winning prize.

“I can’t believe it. It’s always been a dream to win. This will completely change my life – put it that way,” she said.

“I’ve probably only slept two hours. I keep thinking I have to pinch myself.”

The woman held one of the five division one winning entries on Saturday, which each took home just over $1m, saying the win was “life-changing.”

She plans on using the prize money to pay off her house and build a nest egg for her future.

Across Australia, there were five division one winning entries in Saturday Lotto draw 4487 – three from Victoria, one from New South Wales and one from Queensland.

The Lott’s division one winning tally has now reached 231 so far in 2024, including 75 won by NSW Lotteries customers.

In 2023, Saturday Lotto created 176 millionaires across Australia.

During this time, there were 303 division one winning in Saturday Lotto entries across Australia that collectively won more than $436 million.
