Wickham Wolves dominate Port Hedland Rovers in round 12 clash

Wickham Wolves came out on top in Saturday night’s high-scoring clash against Port Hedland Rovers in round 12 of the North Pilbara Football League.

The Wolves jumped to the lead in the first term at Town Oval, kicking three goals while the Rovers struggled to find their feet, failing to get a single score on the board.

The Rovers struck back in the second term kicking five goals but the Wolves weren’t going to let the Rovers take the lead, matching the Port Hedland side with five of their own before the half-time break, 8.8 (56) to 5.5 (35).

The Wolves pulled out the stops in the third, going on to kick an additional five goals while the Rovers dropped back, managing to collect just two goals from a handful of opportunities, 13.10 (88) to 7.11 (53).

The Rovers tried to get themselves back into the game in the final term, kicking another two goals, but it wasn’t enough to catch up with the Wolves who went on to kick another two goals themselves to secure the win by 32 points, 15.11 (101) to 9.15 (69).

The Wolves Jack Cheedy led the scoring on four goals while fellow teammate Dan Whitehead celebrated playing 50 games for the Wickham Wolves.

The Karratha Kats drew with the Dampier Sharks at Windy Ridge Oval on Saturday night, 9.10 (64) to 9.10 (64).
