Australia is only market in the world to offer all four vehicles on the brand’s rear/all-wheel drive Large Architecture.

The following is a breakdown of what ***********-specification Mazda CX-70 and CX-80 models will offer, according to government approval documents.

Mazda CX-70

The Mazda CX-70 is a two-row companion to the North *********-focussed CX-90 which is already sold in Australia. It has been approved for ***** with the same mild-hybrid inline-six petrol and diesel engines.

At this stage no plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain has been approved for ***** in Australia, though it’s offered in markets like North America.

The 3.3-litre turbocharged e-Skyactiv inline-six-cylinder petrol engine produces 254kW of power between 5000 and 6000rpm. A torque figure isn’t supplied in the approval documents, though in the CX-90 the G50e engine produces 500Nm of torque.

The 3.3-litre turbocharged e-Skyactiv inline-six-cylinder diesel engine on the other hand produces 187kW at 3750rpm. A torque figure isn’t supplied in the approval documents, though in the CX-90 the D50e engine produces 550Nm.

Both mild-hybrid inline-six engines are mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel drive system.

Other details revealed in the approval documents include the entire CX-70 has a braked towing capacity of 2500kg and an unbraked towing capacity of 750kg.

For context, the diesel-powered CX-90 only has a 2000kg braked towing capacity.

Tare mass for both the petrol and diesel models is around 2100kg, and the ****** vehicle mass (GVM) for both is around 2700kg.

The CX-70 measures in at 5100mm long, 1994mm wide, and 1733mm tall, with a 3120mm wheelbase. It also has 206mm of ground clearance.

No further specification details have been confirmed by Mazda Australia at this stage.

Mazda CX-80

The Mazda CX-80 is a stretched, three-row version of the *********- and *********-focussed CX-60 which was the first Large Architecture-based SUV to be sold in Australia.

Like the CX-60, the CX-80 has been approved for ***** in Australia with a mild-hybrid inline-six petrol and diesel engine, as well as a PHEV powertrain. All the outputs are exactly the same across the two models.

The 3.3-litre turbocharged e-Skyactiv inline-six-cylinder petrol engine produces 209kW of power between 5000 and 6000rpm. A torque figure isn’t supplied in the approval documents, though in the CX-60 the G40e engine produces 450Nm of torque.

The 3.3-litre turbocharged e-Skyactiv inline-six-cylinder diesel engine produces 187kW of power at 3750rpm. A torque figure isn’t supplied in the approval documents, though in the CX-60 the D50e engine produces 550Nm.

Lastly the plug-in hybrid powertrain pairs a 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 141kW with an electric motor. Total system output figures aren’t supplied in the approval documents though in the CX-60 the P50e powertrain produces 241kW and 500Nm.

Like the CX-60, all versions of the CX-80 have been approved for ***** with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.

Other information revealed in the approval documents includes the CX-80 will offer both six- and seven-seat configurations. The former will include second-row captain’s chairs.

Braked towing capacity for the mild-hybrid petrol and PHEV powertrains is 2500kg, whereas for the mild-hybrid diesel it’s 2000kg. Unbraked towing capacity across the range is 750kg. This mirrors what the CX-60 range offers.

Tare mass for both the mild-hybrid inline-six CX-80 versions is around 2000kg, whereas the PHEV is around 2100kg. The ****** vehicle mass (GVM) for the mild-hybrid inline-six versions is around 2600kg, whereas for the PHEV it’s around 2800kg.

The Mazda CX-80 measures in at 4990mm long, 1890mm wide, and 1710mm tall, with a 3120mm wheelbase. It has around 170mm of ground clearance.

Like the CX-70, no further specifications for the CX-80 have been confirmed by Mazda Australia at this stage.
