officers were shot at in a stand-off in the 2100 block of South 15th Street early Sunday morning.

Springfield Police Emergency Response Team and Crisis Response Team members were called in after multiple persons were uncooperative with officers and barricaded themselves inside a home.

A person from inside the home shot at officers at least twice, striking a rescue vehicle occupied by multiple Springfield Police officers both times.

Springfield Police returned *****, said Deputy Chief Sara Pickford.

One person inside the house had a gunshot wound, but Pickford couldn’t confirm that the person was struck by Springfield Police gunfire.

Another person from inside the home eventually emerged to tell police about the injured person inside.

ERT members, accompanied by a trauma doctor assigned to the team, then got inside the home. Police secured all the people inside and gave medical aid to the injured person, who was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Two men with gunshot wounds were located in the same block after Springfield Police arrived on the scene shortly after 1 a.m. The two victims, who were also taken to the hospital, were able to verbally direct police to the house in question.

Pickford said she didn’t immediately know the connection between the two ********* victims and the persons inside the home.

Springfield Police were on the scene for several hours “trying to peacefully resolve the situation,” Pickford said.

Police were trying to piece together what led up to the *********, Pickford said.

They were originally alerted to the area by ShotSpotter, though there were several callers about the initial *********, she added.

No officers were injured during the stand off.

Pickford didn’t say how many personnel responded to the scene.

Illinois State Police was contacted to start an independent investigation because of the officer-involved *********.
