Wickepin hosts Women in Agriculture ‘Seeds of Change’ to inspire and support women’s careers in rural towns

Wickepin will be the centre of “seeds of change” as farming women descend on the small Wheatbelt town to uplift, support and educate each other.

A plethora of strong and inspiring women will gather at Wickepin Community Centre on July 25 for the 2024 Women in Agriculture event, which has been organised by Facey Group since 2003.

Facey Group is a not-for-profit grower group dedicated to improving on-farm practices and embodies localised research to support farming communities.

Under the theme of “seeds of change”, this year’s event will provide women new to rural areas or struggling career-wise with opportunities and information to help them find their place.

Chief executive officer Tina Astbury said Facey Group comprised strong female leaders with a passion for agriculture who had always believed the event was important to support, inspire and connect women in regional communities.

“It’s an exciting, lovely and welcoming day on the calendar for women all through regional WA,” she said.

“It’s important to acknowledge that women in rural communities have extra challenges compared to women in more supported and suburban communities.

“The event is designed to inspire but also support; we want people to come away with something they could implement or work with on the farm, to build that sense of companionship and solidarity.”

The day will start at 8.30am and include eight speakers, with Natalie Johnston to be keynote speaker.

A high tea and lunch will be served between speakers.
