Rainbow Six Siege’s Problems Make More Sense as Sequel Supposedly Ready to Drop

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege had become one of the most popular squad-based first-person shooters on the market for a while, with several gaming streamers making it their go-to title to broadcast. Since then, though, the game has witnessed quite a few pitfalls that have hampered its progress.

The title may not have been perfect at launch, but consecutive updates have been changing the experience repeatedly, leading to more issues spawning within the game. It was expected that Ubisoft would address these issues, but the company may be taking a more drastic approach.

Rumors Suggest a Sequel to Rainbow Six Siege Is on the Horizon

Development teams have limited resources that must be directed toward various tasks and activities. Maintaining a live-service title is a demanding task, and the difficulty is compounded when there is a sequel to be made as well. This could explain the lack of serious updates from Ubisoft for Rainbow Six Siege.

Bug fixes are necessary for each live-service title, but they can only be created when the team has time to identify and fix these issues. However, a leaked message coming, allegedly, from a developer working on “Siege 2.0(similar to CSGO2)” states that the team has been busy working on a sequel for the game over the past four years.

The message states the project began when developers were pulled off the main team to work on the new project. This may explain the criticisms many fans had for the recent Rainbow Six Siege content update released by Ubisoft. Without the necessary manpower or the team who built the original, the quality of subsequent content updates would have dipped.

Towards the end of the message, it says, “90% of our team is focused on Siege 2, with almost everyone having moved on from the original Siege.

It’s stated that the sequel is now nearing completion and has been built from the ground up using the Snowdrop engine used to create XDefiant. With the source code for Rainbow Six Siege riddled with issues, the team has built it from scratch and also implemented in-house anti-cheat software.

The company has never been one to enjoy purely positive press, but recent events have swayed public opinion greatly. The biggest one may be *********’s Creed Shadows allegedly copying the merchandise design for Yasuke’s sword from One Piece. The sword and display stand’s similarity to Zoro’s Sandai Kitetsu was mentioned by several fans of the anime online.

The game has also been the subject of critique and mockery by online communities for its choice to use Yasuke as the protagonist. While Siege has the chance to fix its problems in the sequel, Shadows is launching with the weight of its controversies, and Ubisoft’s pricing strategy won’t do it any favors.

We can expect similar pricing issues with the sequel to Siege as the company attempts to get more people onto its subscription platform. Many find this sort of tactic greedy and annoying, but it seems to be a method many large developers may adopt in the near future.
