Judge Dismisses Classified Documents Case Against Trump

A federal judge on Monday dismissed in its entirety the classified documents case against former President Donald J. Trump, ruling that the appointment of the special counsel, Jack Smith, had violated the Constitution. The ruling by Judge Aileen M. Cannon, who was put on the bench by Mr. Trump, differed from previous court decisions reaching back to the Watergate era. Alan Feuer, a reporter for The New York Times who is covering federal ********* cases involving Mr. Trump, explains the ruling.
