Western Sydney man admits bizarre act inside supermarket that caused $300 contamination

A western Sydney man has pleaded guilty in court to destroying several hundred dollars worth of meat when he urinated on shelves inside a CBD Woolworths.

Lochlan James Ebejer, 22, was arrested and charged early on Sunday morning after a public appeal for information following a bizarre incident inside the supermarket on the corner of George and Park streets on July 1.

Police said the Sadleir man walked into the store and urinated on products, causing more than $311 worth of damage to various meat products, according to court documents.

Footage from the incident, released as part of the public appeal, showed Ebejer tying up his drawstring pants as he exited up the escalator just before midnight.

Supermarket workers had to spend several hours decontaminating the area following the incident.

Last week, police released CCTV as part of an appeal for information and Ebejer was arrested at Hunters Hill early on Sunday morning.

He was charged with contaminating goods with intent to cause public alarm and trespassing.

He was granted bail after he appeared in Parramatta Bail Court on Sunday.

In Sydney’s Downing Centre Local Court on Tuesday, his solicitor Liam McKibbin entered pleas of guilty to one count of contaminating goods with intent to cause public alarm and one count of trespass.

The matter was adjourned for sentence on August 30.

Mr McKibbin told the court that he would make an application on mental health grounds for Ebejer to be discharged into the care of a responsible person.

Ebejer was also charged with offensive conduct while on enclosed lands, with Mr McKibbin telling the court it appeared to be a duplication and he would seek to have it withdrawn.

Ebejer will return to court next month.
