has gained another hybrid option, which will arrive in showrooms in August.

Hyundai announced last year it would offer the i30 Sedan Hybrid in three trim levels, but only provided pricing for the base model of which deliveries commenced earlier this year.

Now, the mid-range Elite has been priced at $37,500 before on-road costs ahead of its imminent arrival. That puts it $4000 above the petrol-powered Elite, an identical premium to the base hybrid.

A question mark still hovers over the range-topping Premium. Hyundai Australia hasn’t confirmed when this will arrive or how much it will cost.

All i30 Sedan Hybrid models feature a 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol engine mated with a 32kW/170Nm electric motor, a 1.32kWh battery pack and a six-speed automatic transmission.

Total outputs are 104kW of power and 265Nm of torque.

Claimed fuel economy is 3.9L/100km on the combined cycle – down from 6.1L/100km with the base 2.0-litre four/CVT powertrain, and matching the claim of the rival

Hyundai Australia hasn’t published a full feature list for the Elite Hybrid, however the petrol-powered Elite features the following equipment:

That’s in addition to the following equipment found on the base i30 Sedan, which includes:

There are slight spec differences between the base i30 Sedan and i30 Sedan Hybrid, with the electrified model swapping the torsion-beam rear suspension for a multi-link setup.

The base hybrid also loses a full-sized spare for a space-saver, while gaining a couple of features – dual-zone climate control and rain-sensing wipers – which are standard on the petrol Elite.

The petrol Premium gains features like an eight-speaker Bose sound system, a sunroof, a heated steering wheel, heated and ventilated front seats, a surround-view camera, and Hyundai’s ******-Spot View Monitor.

Hyundai sold 1150 i30 Sedan Hybrids in the first half of this year, accounting for 17.7 per cent of all i30 sales.
