Star Wars Outlaws Devs Went to Extreme Lengths to Give Us the Right Atmosphere

Star Wars Outlaws is set to be released by the end of August, and the gaming community is excited to see this new original project take place during the height of the Galactic Civil War. The developers have specific goals for this project: to feel authentic and honor the original trilogy.

It is interesting to see creatives take a gamble by setting up a new project during the most intense moments in the franchise and introducing a new character for players to know and explore the galaxy. This opportunity comes rarely, and Ubisoft has no plans to fumble now.

Ubisoft is the latest group of creatives to throw hats in the ring and deliver something original but also familiar to the beloved franchise. Navid Khavari is the narrative lead of this new project and wanted Star Wars Outlaws to feel like the original trilogy and pay homage to what came before while bringing in something fresh.

Julian Gerighty is the creative director and adores the original films. Gerighty revealed in a recent

that the team developed a new feature that would give the game the same visual feel and atmosphere as of 1970.

We developed a lens for use inside of [game engine] snowdrop, a camera lens, which replicates the cinema lenses of the 1970s,

Gerighty and Khavari wanted to make this game feel like it was from a certain *******.

So if you look, there is slight distortion. There is a Panavision lens vignetting chromatic aberration. There are lens flairs that are present. All of these things are there to remind you of the lenses of the original trilogy through new technology. We even collaborated with Lucasfilm to get the camera values for Rogue One, so we were as close as possible to the original trilogy, but through the lens of modern technology.

The developers also looked at the live-action films for inspiration and Solo: A Star Wars Story was the perfect film that inspired the focus on the ********* underworld in the game. This game is an opportunity for unexplored story beats.

Obscure characters like Jabba the Hutt will be present and will serve as a connection to the larger Skywalker Saga. The character appeared in the original trilogy while the game is between Episodes 5 and 6.

Star Wars Outlaws is the Perfect Game for Fans Who Loved the Original Trilogy

The beauty of this project is that it may take place within the same universe but is not tethered to the narrative. Kay will present the fans with a different perspective under the rule of the Empire.

Gerighty grew up with the films and this format will blur the lines between video games and movies. Perhaps this improvement will inspire other game developers to deliver more authentic experiences.

Video games will offer a different point of view and touch upon topics that the films could not. Some fans are already suggesting potential expansion ideas.

Ubisoft realizes the value of the films and will piggyback on their success. Legacy fans will enjoy the visual feel of this project.
