Weeks before its closure, every Mario Maker level has finally been beaten

Every community-uploaded Super Mario Maker has officially been beaten ahead of the end of the game’s online functionality.

Super Mario Maker will be taken offline, alongside all other Wii U and 3DS games on April 8, 2024. Ahead of this, a group of players formed in an attempt to clear the game’s few remaining unbeaten levels.

In order to upload a level in Super Mario Maker, the creator must be able to beat the level themselves, to prove its legitimacy.

While the majority of the game’s levels had been beaten by more than one player ahead of the shutdown, a final level, “Trimming The Herbs,” had stumped players for weeks.

Now, after weeks of effort, the creator of the level has come forward to confirm the level was made using TAS software. TAS software emulates perfect inputs for any given level.

While this means that Trimming The Herbs theoretically could be beaten, it would reportedly require around 20 frame-perfect jumps.

Since the level wasn’t beaten legitimately by the creator, Trimming The Herbs has been deemed an illegitimate upload, and thus the community goal of beating every level, has been achieved.

Online services for the Wii U and 3DS will conclude on April 8 at 4pm PT / 7pm ET / 12am (April 9) GMT.

Nintendo already closed down the eShops for both systems back in March 2023, but players have been able to continue using online services in-game, such as online multiplayer and rankings.

Players will still be able to play games offline after online services end, and Nintendo notes that Pokémon Bank and Poké Transporter will still retain online functionality (presumably since they’re still used by players and use online connectivity as their central mechanic).
