Capcom has responded to criticism of Dragon’s Dogma 2’s paid DLC and performance issues

Capcom has responded to Dragon’s Dogma 2 players who have criticised the game’s use of microtransactions as well as performance issues on PC.

While the game received glowing pre-release reviews, following today’s launch it has had a ‘mixed’ reception on Steam, where just 40% of over 9,300 user reviews are positive.

Players discovered on Friday that there are 21 separate DLC purchases available on day one. Disappointment appears to stem from the fact that some of them are for things that players feel should be easier to obtain in-game for free.

Players have also complained about performance issues, and the inability to start a new game.

In a message published on Steam, Capcom

it has “received numerous comments from the community” on these subjects. “To all those looking forward to this game, we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience.”

On the subject of microtransactions, Capcom noted that “all the items listed below can be obtained in-game or as paid DLC”.

  • Art of Metamorphosis – Character Editor
  • Ambivalent Rift Incense – Change Pawn Inclinations
  • Portcrystal – Warp Location Marker
  • Wakestone – Restore the ***** to life!
  • 500 Rift Crystals / 1500 Rift Crystals / 2500 Rift Crystals – Points to Spend Beyond the Rift
  • Makeshift Gaol Key – Escape from gaol!
  • Harpysnare Smoke Beacons – Harpy Lure Item

Capcom also said it’s investigating critical problems such as crashes and freezing, which it plans to address “in the near future”.

Regarding frame rate issues, it said: “A large amount of CPU usage is allocated to each character and calculating the impact of their physical presence in various areas. In certain situations where numerous characters appear simultaneously, the CPU usage can be very high and may affect the frame rate.

“We are aware that in such situations, settings that reduce GPU load may currently have a limited effect; however, we are looking into ways to improve performance in the future.”

And it said it’s looking to introduce a feature that enables Dragon’s Dogma 2 players to restart the game on Steam. “We will announce more details as soon as we can.”

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is the first Capcom game to be sold at $70 for its standard edition, and last month, the publisher said it would consider releasing more games at this price point given the rise in development costs across the industry.

It was revealed earlier this week that Capcom was Metacritic’s highest-rated publisher in 2023, based on the quality of its releases last year.
