French MPs in talks about forming the next government

Newly elected MPs have arrived at France’s lower house of parliament for talks seeking to cobble together a government majority after a chaotic election result left the legislature split among left, centre and far-right parties.

President Emmanuel Macron on Monday asked his Prime Minister Gabriel Attal to continue handling day-to-day affairs, less than three weeks before the start of the Paris Olympics.
