LOUIS — After morning showers and downpours, there will be a break in stormy weather until late this afternoon. Scattered storms with brief heavy rain will lift south to north across the region this afternoon into this evening. While there will be brief bursts of tropical downpours, any heavy rain this afternoon is not likely to last too long in any one spot. Rain will be moderate to heavy at times, especially south of I-70 in Missouri and east of I-55 in Illinois. Widespread 2-4 inch rainfall is expected, but a narrow band of 4-6 inches is possible somewhere southeast of St. Louis. That will depend on the exact track of the remnant circulation of Beryl. Either way, lots of rain is on the way, with flash flooding and river flooding concerns. If the heavy rain is a bit more to the south, that lowers the flooding concerns on the major rivers and focuses more on smaller rivers, creeks and streams. A northward shift would add more water in the Missouri and Mississippi basins and increase the concern for more flooding on the larger rivers. The expected track of Beryl is to keep the threat for any isolated severe storms or tornadoes to our east. However, ambient gusty winds of 25–35 mph cannot be ruled out Tuesday afternoon.
