Sure, the visual feedback is great, but it’s the audio cue that really drives home the feeling of a job well done. That distinctive “pip” sound has become an iconic part of the beloved hero-shooter experience, but its origins might surprise you. As it turns out, the sound that’s been giving players an adrenaline rush for years now was inspired by something completely unrelated to gaming. In fact, it’s a sound that many are intimately familiar with, even if they’ve never set foot on a virtual battlefield. After all, if the original sound is that of a bottle being opened, doesn’t the reversed version technically represent a bottle being closed? It seems that Blizzard is content with the ***** bottle-inspired sound and has no plans to allow players to change it anytime soon! As the game continues to evolve, it will be interesting to see if the sound design team at Blizzard can come up with any more unexpected sources of inspiration. In the meantime, we’ll just have to keep our ears open and our ***** bottles at the ready. What do you think about the origins of Overwatch‘****** detection sound?
