Helldivers 2’s lack of split-screen co-op has been a talking point for players for a while. A decade ago, split-screen was a staple in multiplayer games, creating lasting memories for many.

Even the first Helldivers allowed players to enjoy local co-op. And this is one of the many things that the community has voiced its opinion on.

Really happy with how well Helldivers 2 is doing. Played the original for YEARS, though I wish 2 had couch co-op still.

Despite the high demand, the developers have confirmed that the game will not feature a split-screen co-op. But since the first game had it anyways, and was successful, fans are left confused. 

The decline of split-screen co-op isn’t unique to Helldivers 2. Many modern games have moved away from this feature due to technical limitations and a shift towards online multiplayer experiences.

Fans of couch co-op argue that the unique bonding experience it provides is irreplaceable. Playing side by side with friends or family creates memorable moments that online multiplayer can’t replicate.

Arrowhead Game Studios, the developers of Helldivers 2, have shown a willingness to listen to fan feedback. 

And considering the dips in player count that the game has had recently, this would be a perfect time to do it again.

As it stands, Helldivers 2 is designed with online co-op in mind. This has disappointed many long-time fans who fondly remember the days of split-screen gaming. 

The game’s focus on online play may appeal to newer generations, but it leaves those nostalgic for couch co-op feeling left behind.
