Not GTA 4 or GTA 5, But Red ***** Redemption’s John Marston is the Only Rockstar Protagonist to be Able to Boast 1 Accomplishment

Rockstar Games has been renowned for pushing the technological envelope in each new installment but one aspect has been massively overlooked. The developers are capable of creating great protagonists and one character has achieved an impressive feat that no one else did.

The developers never had a habit of reusing the same protagonist, let alone making them playable for more than one project. This streak ended in the latest project after the gaming community thought this fan-favorite was pushed to the side as a supporting character until one unfortunate event.

Rockstar Games has been around for the last two decades and knows how to make endearing protagonists. However, the developers treat each new project not as a direct sequel or an extension of the same franchise and the developers showcase their technological prowess by creating a detailed world like what was seen in Red ***** Redemption 2.

The characters are often overlooked and the gaming community was initially upset to see Marston take a ********* in the prequel. However, Arthur Morgan grew on the players for the main story and was forever scarred after his ******. The gaming community was then shocked to discover that Martson would end up being the playable character throughout the epilogue and end game section and making history.

The previous Grand Theft Auto game introduced a new mechanic to play multiple protagonists and be able to switch immediately. The developers took a different approach with the Western project and rather than being able to switch, the players can only take control of Marston after a certain point in the narrative which propelled his character arc in a new direction.

This is a testament to how beloved Marston was in the gaming community and being able to play a younger version of the character in a much more detailed form is quite the treat. Perhaps the developers will consider bringing back former protagonists from GTA 5 like Franklin Clinton, Michael Townley, and Trevor Philips to GTA 6 for a brief cameo.

The developers should try this strategy more often, bringing back beloved characters from previous games. The team did develop a habit of bringing back some stuff like easter eggs and references for the players to find and they hope to see more features like journaling make a return in the future.

Each sequel feels like a standalone rather than a continuation and does not usually rely on the story of the predecessor. Perhaps this could be all changed now that the team found success in this strategy.

Protagonists have an important role in gaining the attention of the players. Marston and Morgan were prime examples of what a great main character should be and fans hope Lucia and Jason will be as endearing in GTA 6.
