WAFLW 2024: Claremont star Jayme Harken claims second consecutive Dhara Kerr Medal

Claremont midfielder Jayme Harken has pipped number one draft prospect Zippy Fish by a single vote to win back-to-back Dhara Kerr Medals at the WAFL Women’s Awards on Monday night.

The Tiger finished with an impressive 27 votes to be crowned the 2024 best and fairest, beating her own record of 24 last year, to poll the most votes by an individual player since the start of the WAFLW competition in 2019.

Harken averaged 24 disposals across 15 games in another dominant season for Claremont, who will compete for the third year in a row in the WAFLW grand final against East Fremantle at Pentanet Stadium on Sunday.

The 28-year-old will be primed for the contest with a season-best 32 disposals against the Sharks in round three, backed up by 30 in the Tigers three-point semi final loss against the reigning premiers.

East Fremantle’s young **** Fish came a narrow second with 26 votes, while Swan Districts’ Lily Paterson (17 votes) finished third and Molly O’Hehir (South Fremantle) and Mia Russo (West Perth) tied for equal fourth on 15 votes.

Swan Districts’ Courtney Zappara won the Joanne Huggins Leading Goal Kicker Award after booting 22 goals, including a career-high seven-goal haul against East Perth in round 13, while teammate Carys D’Addario claimed the Cath Boyce Rising Star award.

The WAFLW Coach of the Year was won for a second in three years by East Fremantle coach Matt Templeton.

West Perth’s Hayley Bidefeld won the Charmaine Rogers Fairest and Best for the top player in colts and will have the opportunity to claim a premiership medal in Sunday’s grand final against Subiaco. West Perth is through to their second colts grand final having remained undefeated all season for the second consecutive year. The Rogers Cup Leading Goal Kicker was tied between Perth’s Shante Anderson and South Fremantle’s Nicole Taylor-Thorpe, with each kicking 29 goals.
