Since its release, Elden Ring has achieved astronomical numbers in terms of sales and popularity. Its community is enormous and is always eager to discover new things and try different ways to play it. Recently, while playing this FromSoftware title, a player discovered a reference to The Lord of the Rings.

This moment went viral on social media, surprising fans who love finding this kind of reference, even if it comes from the players themselves. Let’s remember that not long ago, the game released an expansion that once again placed it among the most-played titles on any platform.

Having been released in 2022 and after many years of development, Elden Ring is undoubtedly the most popular game that FromSoftware has done. Recently, the company confirmed that the game had surpassed 25 million copies sold across all platforms. This particular game is the definitive Soulslike, the genre that made the developer famous. Players in this title are constantly discovering new things.

An Elden Ring player was exploring the map like any other day and discovered an incredible reference to The Lord of the Rings. Naturally, this player recorded the moment, which then went viral on social media.

In particular, the reference points to one of the most epic moments featuring Gandalf, portrayed by popular actor Ian McKellen in Peter Jackson’s film trilogy. This moment was key for the plot.

This particular reference brings to mind one of the most epic yet saddest moments of the first movie. In this scene, Gandalf the Grey stays behind, trying to stop the advance of Balrog with the famous phrase, “You shall not pass.”.

All this happens while the Fellowship of the Ring escapes from this dangerous ***** they need to overcome. This is one of the many iconic moments in this fantasy trilogy.

Naturally, the players of this title praised this reference, being more than pleased with the game’s fan community. The various reactions on social media were mostly positive, although some users noted that this reference was not from the game itself but from a player who took advantage of a location that resembled the one in the movie to recreate this scene. Even so, this proves that the FromSoftware IP never stops surprising its community.

Shadow of the Erdtree, the long-awaited Elden Ring expansion that the entire community had wanted to try since its announcement, was finally released on June 21, after months of anticipation.

The reception was more than positive from both critics and players, although part of the community complained about the high difficulty this DLC presented. Despite this, fans of this type of game can’t wait to see what the studio’s next title will be.
