How to Fix ‘Inappropriate Activity Detected’ Error in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree DLC

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree shares a lot of the technical issues from the base game including inconsistent performance, stuttering, and a few network issues as well. However, these don’t interrupt the actual gameplay in most cases. With the launch of the Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, a lot of players are running into the ‘Inappropriate Activity Detected’ error, and here are a few things you can do to fix that.

For most users, this error shows up when they’re trying to summon another user. It can be pretty frustrating, especially when you don’t have any mods installed. It’s also affecting Steam Deck users, which the developers are aware of. It’s a bug with Easy Anti-Cheat, which we’re hopeful that the developers will address in a hotfix.

In the meantime, here are a few things you can do to potentially fix this.

First, make sure your game files are in order, and there isn’t anything missing or broken. Multiple users have confirmed that simply verifying their game files through the Steam client fixes the error.

  • Open Steam, and navigate to your library
  • Here, right-click on Elden Ring and select Properties
  • In the Installed Files tab, click on Verify integrity of game file

Steam will scan through the files, and download anything that’s missing or broken.

If you’re using any mods while playing the expansion, we recommend temporarily disabling them. If a particular mod is causing this error, then disabling it should fix the problem.

Make sure you are on the latest version of the game. This bug is related to Easy Anti-Cheat, and an upcoming update should address it. To ensure Elden Ring is always updated in Steam, follow the steps below.

  • Open Steam, and navigate to your library
  • Here, right-click on Elden Ring and select Properties
  • In the Updates section, select High Priority under Automatic Updates

This will ensure that Elden Ring is updated first.

Because of this EAC-related bug, the expansion isn’t working well on the Steam Deck/Linux either. It’s being

, and the official Elden Ring account has confirmed they’re working on a hotfix as well.

We hope that the issue is addressed soon, but for now, verifying the game files is the safest bet. For more on Shadow of the Erdtree, make sure to follow our dedicated section.
