Sony has reportedly made cuts to VR development, with only 2 titles currently planned

Sony has reportedly cut investment in VR, with only two titles in development in-house for its PlayStation VR headset.

That’s according to

, which claims that two games are in development at Sony for its PlayStation VR headset, with little interest within the publisher to produce more.

According to the publication, there will be “very few opportunities for VR development at Sony going forward.”

VGC has asked Sony for comment on this story.

Sony’s biggest foray into VR development came at the launch of PlayStation VR2, with Horizon: Call of the Mountain. Since then, the company’s output for the hardware has been limited.

A PC adapter for the headset will be released later this year.

The adaptor will be released on August 7 and costs $59.99 / €59.99 / £49.99 at select retailers and

Players will also need a commercially available DisplayPort cable (sold separately) that is compatible with DisplayPort 1.4, as well as a Steam account and a PC that meets the minimum requirements.

In October, Sony Interactive Entertainment’s senior vice president and head of global marketing, Eric Lempel, described VR as a meaningful business for the company, but one that was yet to reach its potential.

“The VR category is important to us,” Lempel said. “It’s a category that can help us with innovation. It’s never going to be the only way people play games, but I’m happy that we’re in it. There are great experiences to be had and consumers really like it. But it’s a nascent business for us.”
