Call of Duty is one of the most popular first-person shooter franchises in the current scenario. While many Call of Duty veterans may argue that the franchise is only a shadow of what it was earlier, it is no surprise that the series still attracts tonnes of players.

Ghost Recon is also a top-rated franchise that has been incredibly popular. The series is also one of Ubisoft’s most popular ones ever to come out. While the recent titles were tactical shooters played from a third-person perspective, there are reports that the next title in the series will revert to the first-person perspective, like Activision’s CoD series.

There is no doubt that in the current scenario, Activision’s first-person shooter franchise enjoys more mainstream popularity than Ubisoft‘s third-person tactical shooter series. One of the main reasons is that the former offers more ways to play and is much more accessible from a difficulty standpoint.

to Insider Gaming that the upcoming title, being developed under the Project name Ovr / Over, aims for a release date in the 2025-2026 window.

As stated, the title will also go back to first-person. It will be heavily inspired by the current Modern Warfare subseries from Activision and feature similar dark and allegedly controversial missions. But that might be where the similarities end, as the formula for the title will not be changed to match up with Activision’s arcade shooter.

The title’s setting will be a fictional war called the Naiman War, featuring various grotesque visuals and depiction of war *******. Like previous entries in the series, the game will continue to be a tactical shooter generally more similar to titles like Ready or Not, Squad or Battlefield.

As stated, Activision‘s FPS series has notably become the gaming company’s cash cow. Players dislike the game to the extent that many affirm that the only thing similar to previous and current titles is that they share the same franchise name.

This is why the consumers are forced to stay dormant and witness one of the most iconic series in FPS gaming turn into yearly cashflow-inducing shenanigans made for profits and profits only. From insufferable matchmaking to people abusing various glitches and rampant microtransactions that are present throughout, the industry and the gamer fraternity are in dire need of a title that can give Activision a run for its money.

While it is no confirmation that the upcoming Ghost Recon title will be the one that achieves that, the game reverting to the first-person perspective is undoubtedly a promising update.
