Will Pax Dei Have a Subscription? – Answered

It’s uncommon these days for a new free-to-play MMORPG to hit the market. You have a stable of free options on Steam, and many of them include egregious in-game stores to fund further development, but the most successful titles use the subscription method. So, will Pax Dei have a subscription or another means of monetizing?

When the game launches in Early Access on June 18, Pax Dei will not feature a monthly subscription. You’ll pay for a Founder’s Pack, which includes access to the game’s Early Access *******, a plot (or multiple plots, depending on your edition), and other in-game items. This ******* will last until approximately June 2025, though it could go on longer if the developer feels it’s necessary.

Once Early Access concludes, the studio said they’ll adopt a subscription-like model with a monthly fee to play the game. Even if you purchase Early Access, you will still need to pay the monthly fee to continue exploring the world of Pax Dei.

As to how this system works, it’s not entirely clear, unfortunately. The studio did state the total recurring fee for the game would vary depending on how many building plots you wish to control in-game. For additional context, the Early Access Founder’s Packs provide anywhere from one to four plots of land, depending on which version you purchase.

Of course, nothing is set in stone currently. The game still has a ways to go, with development ongoing through the Early Access *******, and the monetization method may change entirely. We’ll have to wait and see!

As much of the game’s monetization revolves around “plots,” it’s best we touch on the subject here, as it may directly affect the monthly fee you pay in the future.

A plot of land in Pax Dei is a buildable space every player receives with their Founder’s Pack. You may build from the available set pieces, and multiple plots can connect together to form an entire player-made town in the game world.

Furthermore, if you have multiple plots, you can choose to allocate one to an alt or retain them all on a single character. It’ll make for an interesting mechanic and a whole lot of personalization!
