New Jurassic Park: Survival details emerge

In case you missed it, during The Game Awards last year, Jurassic Park: Survival was revealed to the public with very little to its name outside of the game taking place a mere day after the 1993 flick. This new adventure has no relation to its canceled 2000 game, by the way.

Recently, more info has come forward with IGN having the scoop with exclusive info about what players can expect following a Q&A with Universal’s products and experiences executive producer John Melchior and Saber Interactive’s creative director Oliver Hollis-Leick. Based on the report, Saber Interactive has gone the whole nine yards, including new locations, new characters, and — most importantly — new dinosaurs trekking Isla Nublar.

New locations like places parkgoers were meant to stay and other places only implied in the film. Meanwhile, Maya Joshi isn’t the only new character to the series.

Of course, no gameplay was shared, but Hollis-Leick did explain the challenging terrain, aggressive predators, and the importance of using “intelligence, grit, and patience” to survive the Jurassic Park.

“The island is full of different types of terrain, many of them quite challenging. The player will need to use caution and planning in some cases, checking routes in advance. There will also be times when the player will need to move very carefully through an environment to avoid the attention of certain predators. Maya, the main character, is neither superhuman nor an action hero. There are real risks for her around every corner and the player will need to use a mixture of intelligence, grit and patience to survive the island’s many challenges.”

We still have a ways to go, though, as Universal nor Saber has budged on unveiling a release date outside of “not 2024.” That said, what we do have looks impressive and hopefully will keep the nostalgic factors of the old films while keeping it fresh enough to make it a fun experience.
