The Return of One Character in Gears of War E-Day is Going to Make Their Eventual Demise All the Worse

Gears of War made an appearance at Xbox Games Showcase 2024 to close out the show. The next entry in the series was announced and it will be called Gears of War E-Day. It is a prequel to the franchise that takes place 14 years before the first game.

It will take on the events of Emergency Day with fan-favorite characters returning. Players were pleased to see a younger Marcus Fenix on screen, but also Dom Santiago. Even though fans know of Dom’s tragic story, he’s still one of the best characters in the franchise.

We have our first look at Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago in the upcoming game.

The popular Xbox franchise is making its way to the Series X|S in an all-new title. The announcement trailer shows Marcus fighting off a Locust in an apartment building. Because the game takes place way before he becomes the legendary war hero, he’s struggling against it in this encounter.

After winning the ****** and nearly falling down a sinkhole, his childhood friend and brother-in-arms, Dom, saves him from ******. Fans are reminded fondly of these characters as they were the driving force behind the original Gears of War trilogy.

In the second game, Dom finally finds his wife, Maria, who could not be saved due to the ******** she endured from the Locust. Ever since that moment, Dom struggles to keep the ****** and his spirit going while keeping his squadmates alive.

It all came full circle when Dom decided to sacrifice himself in the third game to save Fenix and co. from the overrun of Locust and Lambent. Dom’s final words are “never thought it would end like this…huh Maria?”

It’s not all rainbows and sunshine.

Despite being very well aware of Dom’s fate, fans are nevertheless excited to see him and Marcus together again.

Gears of War as a franchise is well known for its over-the-top ********* and gory nature. However, if you’ve played the story modes, the narrative is beyond what most would expect. It has a lot of heartfelt moments packed in with the action. Dom Santiago is a perfect example as he goes through these emotional moments while fighting off the Locust Horde.

While fans are aware of what’s to come for the future of Fenix and Santiago, that doesn’t mean they can’t be excited to experience Emergency Day firsthand.

Maria may make an appearance as this is the war where she ends up disappearing. In addition, E-Day is also where Dom’s two children are *******, likely another way for Xbox to tug at players’ heartstrings. 

No date is yet confirmed for Gears of War E-Day, but expect The Coalition’s next project to release some time in the future.
