XDefiant’s Mark Rubin Isn’t Pulling Punches Over Gameplay Faux Pas of His ‘Call of Duty *******’ Shooter

XDefiant has solved the first connectivity issues, making players able to play without having to wait anymore. Since its release five days ago, Ubisoft’s new free-to-play game has attracted a decent number of active players.

One of the game’s executive producers, Mark Rubin, has criticized some players for using their ultimate abilities to disrupt the match’s balance. Rubin has worked with games like Call of Duty in the past, so he knows about these kinds of issues in matches, but Ubisoft will have to see how to nerf or boost certain skills.

After many years in development and being announced in 2021, XDefiant has finally been released. The free-to-play FPS title will compete with Call of Duty, with the same kind of fast-phased gameplay and certain similar mechanics. Ubisoft is leveraging the entire Tom Clancy universe and their own intellectual properties to establish factions based on these titles, as well as to develop the characters and skills within the game.

The title had a complicated first day with the players not being able to enter, but that was quickly fixed, and now the players are happy to enter the game and play quick matches.

However, it is not all good news. The executive producer of the game, Mark Rubin, has been watching the gameplay and is not happy with how certain fans are always using the same ultimate abilities to alter the match’s balance.

Rubin has worked on Call of Duty in the past.

This former executive from Call of Duty has observed the matches and expressed frustration with the consistent use of certain ultimate abilities, which often leads to player dissatisfaction. He doesn’t elaborate a lot more in the complaint, but he will certainly make some adjustments to these particular skills to balance the gameplay more and avoid future complaints from the players.

Rubin, having worked with one of the most successful gaming franchises, understands how a meta skill can disrupt the entire gameplay experience by forcing players to use the same abilities repeatedly, leading to monotony in the matches. The title has just started to make its way to more organized gameplay, so the first days are key to making other players want to enter the experience and test the game.

You can play the game for free on the Xbox Series S/X, PS5, and PC. This mixes factions from Ubisoft’s popular IPs, such as Far Cry, Watch Dogs, Splinter Cell, and more; each faction has its own abilities and skills to use in combat. The matches take place in a 6v6 PvP style, offering a variety of modes to choose from, including the classic Team Deathmatch found in almost all multiplayer FPS games. The company has several seasons of content planned for the title.

What are your thoughts about Rubin’s declarations? Let us know in the comments!
