Mark Rubin Confirms 1 Change to XDefiant’s Double XP is Already in the Works, and It’s Something Call of Duty has Ignored for Years

XDefiant’s launch has been bringing in a lot of new and old players who enjoy competitive first-person shooters. Even in a casual context, the game has welcoming mechanics that give new players a learning curve that’s not too harsh and veterans are feeling at home.

Even though the comparisons with Call of Duty are uncanny, there’s a big aspect where Ubisoft’s game is likely to succeed more. The game will soon receive an update that lets players experience Double XP and let the timer count down when in-game.

This update will make it simpler for players to level up in XDefiant.

At the time of writing, Double XP is active for players looking to level up quickly. This will last till May 28 (Tuesday), 10 AM PT. So, it’s likely the best time to play XDefiant right now in case you wish to level up your progress faster than usual.

However, some players may be put off by the fact that the XP countdown timer doesn’t care about a player’s involvement. Rather, they’d have the countdown happen only when they’re actually in the game. To clarify this, Mark Rubin (the game’s executive producer) has responded on

This has been an age-old problem for Call of Duty fans, and to this day, there’s no clear fix for the same. This may frustrate a lot of players who’d rather have these timers work when they’re in the game, and not when waiting for matchmaking.

Fortunately, for XDefiant players, this will be a thing of the past and players can enjoy the game without worrying about Double XP moments to pass them by without their knowledge.

The two games may look a bit similar but have a different approach to implementing updates.

Given how similar the two games can feel, there are some major differences between gameplay mechanics and a vision for the future that keeps Ubisoft’s game in a somewhat positive light. Take for instance the free-to-play aspect.

For no initial ask for money, players can jump into the game without having to worry about subscribing to something they don’t need. Battle/Season Passes are still a thing, but completely optional. Furthermore, these are purely cosmetic options that players can completely avoid if they wish to.

On the other hand, stepping into any major multiplayer mode in Call of Duty will require players to spend a good amount of money. This doesn’t promise a flawless experience though. The game still experiences several problems that have been making the community upset for quite a while.

In contrast to that, XDefiant’s dev team has been showing time and time again that they’re focused on improving the gameplay and quality of life experience to be had with Ubisoft’s online shooter. There is hope, after all!
