Despite Dwayne Johnson Being a Huge Fan, Mortal Kombat 2 Choosing Another Fast and Furious Star for Shao Kahn is a Missed Opportunity

Whenever we think about blood, gore, and intense *********, only one name pops up in our mind: Mortal Kombat. NetherRealm’s iconic franchise is extremely popular among gamers and features some of the best fighting experiences ever. On the flip side, the Mortal Kombat movie, released in 2021, wasn’t that big of a success.

However, that hasn’t stopped Warner Bros. from taking a second chance and releasing another movie. The upcoming Mortal Kombat 2 is a fresh start and features big names Karl Urban and Jessica McNamee. While that’s all good, Warner Bros. has completely dropped the ball by not casting Dwayne Johson as Shao Kahn.

It’s no secret that the first Mortal Kombat movie was an average box office release, grossing only $84 million worldwide against a budget of $55 million. Despite that, Warner. Bros is taking another chance with the video gaming adaption. Although the plot is still under wraps, we know several things about the movie. 

It’s already been confirmed that the movie will center around the legendary Johnny Cage, who was completely missing from the movie for some unknown reason. Karl Urban, who plays Billy Butcher in The Boys, will play the character. While many praise Urban’s casting choice, others are skeptical of Martyn Ford’s casting as Shao Kahn.

It’s not that Martyn Ford isn’t a good actor or doesn’t have the necessary experience to back up his role in Mortal Kombat 2. The Fast and Furious actor is an absolute ****** with peak human fitness, which suits Shao Khan’s character. However, Dwayne Johnson could’ve been a better choice for the role, considering the actor’s experience and

Johnson has worked on some of Hollywood’s biggest franchises and has a history as a producer and a professional wrestler; he’s the embodiment of perfection. His talent is quite incredible, and his education in fitness is unmatched. 

Shao Kahn is stated to be one of the most imposing villains in the Mortal Kombat franchise, a powerhouse with a striking physique. Dwayne Johnson’s impressive build, tall height, and status as a veteran actor would’ve made him perfect for the role. Johnson also has one of the highest fan followings in Hollywood, and bringing him onto the project would’ve attracted even more attention to the Mortal Kombat 2 movie. 

Considering his past, you can argue that Johnson wouldn’t have fit into a more villainous role. However, he has probably honed his skills in that sort of role with his appearance as ****** Adam. Shao Kahn’s character doesn’t need any Oscar-worthy performance. All Johnson needed to do was flex his muscles and his terrifying presence.

Mortal Kombat 2 movie release date | Steam

The highly anticipated Mortal Kombat sequel finally has a release date. After initially getting announced back in January 2022, various sources have confirmed that the film will hit big screens next fall.

the upcoming Mortal Kombat 2 will premiere in theatres on October 25th, 2025. Unlike the previous movie, which debuted during the COVID-19 Padnemic and didn’t make it  to streaming platforms, Mortal Kombat 2 will remain exclusive to theatres. It’s going to be interesting to see how Warner Bros. approaches this movie, considering the first Mortal Kombat movie’s reception.
