Ubisoft’s Supposed Controversial *********’s Creed Shadows Character Yasuke May Only be in the Game to Cover for their Pricing, According to Asmongold

Ubisoft’s upcoming game, *********’s Creed Shadows, has stirred up quite a bit of controversy, and it’s not just about the main character. While the community debates over Yasuke as the protagonist, popular

streamer Asmongold has a different issue with the game: its pricing.

Many fans are outraged over the game’s pricing. The Gold Edition of the game is priced at $110 USD, and the Ultimate Edition is even higher at $130 USD.

Asmongold’s Critique of Ubisoft’s Pricing Strategy

This game is just full of controversy.

Shadows offers a $70 standard edition, a $110 Gold edition that includes the Season Pass as well as three days of early access to the game, and finally, a $130 Ultimate edition that comes with an ‘ultimate pack‘ on top of all the content offered in the Gold edition. The $110 Gold Edition particularly bothered Asmongold because that version doesn’t even include all of the content, such as the ultimate pack.

He also pointed out that the Ubisoft+ subscription service offers the Ultimate Edition for $18 a month. He believes the high pricing aims to push players towards subscribing instead.

This isn’t the first time that the streamer has criticized Ubisoft’s pricing. His views on *********’s Creed Shadows are similar to his earlier comments on Star Wars Outlaws, where he called out the $110 and $130 editions as a new low for the gaming industry. He also points towards Yasuke, and how the character’s inclusion might only be there to cover up the game’s expensive prices.

It’s pretty easy to agree with him, since even shelling out $110 for these games doesn’t give you all of the content that the game has to offer, instead making you lean on the $130 versions instead.

Industry insider Tom Henderson has also revealed that *********’s Creed Shadows will feature multiple battle passes, called ‘Projects‘ in the game.

These passes will allow players to unlock various weapons and cosmetic items. Henderson says there will be three such battle passes, all accessible through *********’s Creed Infinity, which will be a new interactive hub for the series.

Infinity is supposed to be a type of service that includes all future *********’s Creed games, and possibly older releases as well. As of this time, very little is officially known about *********’s Creed Infinity. It’s unclear if Infinity will be ready when Shadows launches on November 15 or if it will come later.

Ubisoft isn’t new to controversies and bad press, as the publisher is now more synonymous with bad press than positive news. It has a history of releasing buggy, broken, and unfinished games, and charging extremely high prices for these games, not to mention the aggressive microtransactions. Yes, $130 for a video game with battle passes and microtransactions.

Whether the pricing of Shadows justifies its quality of content will be up to the players to decide, but given the developer’s track record of underwhelming games with repetitive fetch quests and other content that is rather lacking in quality, especially for its asking price, it’d be best to remain skeptical until the game releases on November 15 later this year.
