MGM Studios framed the sales figure as a reflection of overwhelming global enthusiasm for the game, pointing to strong critical and commercial performance across every platform where it’s currently available.

The two companies said the launch has established 007 First Light as one of 2026’s most successful gaming releases, and credited the game’s reception to IO Interactive’s ambition to build a premium, original Bond experience rather than a direct adaptation of existing film continuity. The studio behind the Hitman franchise developed the game using its proprietary Glacier engine, the same technology underpinning its assassination-sim series.

IO Interactive has studios in Copenhagen, Malmö, Barcelona, Istanbul, and Brighton, though the Istanbul studio’s closure was announced in July. 007 First Light marks the studio’s first major original IP release outside the Hitman series in recent years, alongside its work on an unannounced new IP under the codename Project Fantasy.

Year One roadmap

IO Interactive laid out a Year One content roadmap for the game that includes regular Tactical Simulation updates set across the game’s existing locations, including Kensington’s Workshop, Slovakia’s mountain slopes, Mauritania’s ****** market and Vietnam’s luxury resort, The Pearl.

Upcoming story content will have players dig further into intelligence tied to Webb Industries and confront a mysterious piece of technology that could become one of Bond’s most dangerous adversaries yet. Following the game’s Mauritania storyline, players can expect a mission built around an unlikely alliance between MI6 and a figure known as Pirate King Bawma, requiring Bond’s direct involvement.

Beyond story content, IO Interactive plans regular TacSim updates that bring gadget upgrades, new weapons, leaderboard challenges and cosmetics throughout the year. The studio is also exploring a New Game+ mode to extend the campaign’s replay value.

007 First Light is available in Standard, Deluxe, Collector’s and Legacy Editions, with additional details available on the game’s official site.

The sales milestone comes as IO Interactive continues to lean on its James Bond license from Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios, developed in association with Delphi Interactive LLC, while

MGM Studios handles the franchise’s film and television side through Prime Video and MGM+.

Neither company disclosed revenue figures alongside the unit sales announcement, and it’s unclear how the figure breaks down across individual platforms or between full-price and discounted sales. The Nintendo Switch 2 version, expected later this summer, could further extend the game’s sales trajectory once it reaches Nintendo’s newest hardware.
