If Half of the *********’s Creed Shadows Cinematic Trailer Actually Ends Up in the Game, it’ll be the Best in Years

It used to be that the reveal of a new *********’s Creed would excite everyone who played the previous game. This was the case for a few titles, then it started to feel like Ubisoft was being lazy by delivering the same game with a different skin. So, they took a different approach, and from Origins, we got the RPG formula.

The formula has been used in three different titles so far, and the fourth one, the newly revealed *********’s Creed Shadows. However, the trailer we have seen for the game promises a lot more when it comes to the story and some gameplay elements. That is only if most of it makes it into the game.

*********’s Creed Shadows offers a promising first look.

It’s been a bit of a running meme in the franchise. Ubisoft will release a trailer that wows everyone with CGI, but the game we play has very little resemblance to the trailer we got. However, every new trailer keeps the hope alive that they’ll get it right this time. The same can be said for *********’s Creed Shadows.

There’s a lot to unpack in the cinematic trailer. The first, and most obvious, aspect is that we are going to get two protagonists. This isn’t new, but these two appear to be individual characters rather than a simple gender swap. The cinematic even shows their first interaction with each other is anything but amicable.

Naoe, the female shinobi, and Yasuke, the ****** samurai, will be working in the turbulent Sengoku era of Japan to bring the country into a new age. The two-character setup was revealed a while ago via a *****, and there was even some controversy regarding Yasuke. However, it’s good to see Ubisoft has drawn from historical accounts to bring in an interesting character for the game.

Throughout the trailer, the theme of purpose seems to be very strong. It comes off as both Naoe and Yasuke are trying to understand their roles in the world while trying to change it. If the story nuances are replicated in the game, it could create a very compelling narrative.

Naoe and Yasuke are going to have a complicated relationship.

While the trailer set up the relationship between the characters, we also got to see both characters in action, each excelling in their own elements in some epic ****** scenes. Here’s hoping the 30FPS marker on the leaked menu screenshot is not the locked frame rate, for the sake of the fights.

The iconic hidden blade is making a return, and this time with a twist (quite literally). We only see Naoe use it in the trailer, and the unsheathe mechanic also turns the blade sideways, allowing her to get a grip on the handle for a stronger thrust. Here’s hoping the one-hit ***** makes a return in the game.

*********’s Creed Shadows is set to launch on November 15, 2024, and pre-orders for the game have already begun. As with any game, it’s best to wait to see more of what the developer has to show before locking your money into a pre-order.
