After there's been zero word on the next mainline Sonic the Hedgehog game, Sonic Team lead Takashi Iizuka says there are more surprises in store for the series 35th anniversary.

Sonic the Hedgehog is pretty constant as of late, whether it be remaster, spinoff or main series game, the series has effectively been a yearly release for a while now. , Iizuka was asked what we can expect from the series' anniversary celebrations. He responds "We want the 35th anniversary to recognize every part of Sonic's history while also looking ahead" in reference to the likes of Sonic in Concert, he adds, "Throughout the year, fans will see Sonic through games, music, events, collaborations, merchandise, and other special projects."

Iizuka then promises more surprises on top of what has already been announced, saying "other surprises will need to remain secret for a little longer. I know that Sonic fans are extremely observant, so I must be careful not to provide any unintended clues!" He adds "We hope there will be something that appeals to fans from every era."
