Peak concurrent players across Steam, the Epic Games Store, and Xbox exceeded 651,000, with Steam alone reaching a peak of more than 467,000 concurrent players. This marks approximately nine times the all-time peak concurrent player count of the original Subnautica, which launched in 2018.

Player response has remained strong following launch. Subnautica 2 currently holds a “Very Positive” user review rating on Steam, with 92% positive reviews. Frequently praised elements include the game’s Unreal Engine 5-powered underwater visuals, four-player co-op multiplayer, survival and crafting systems, and narrative experience.

Developed by Unknown Worlds, founded by Charlie Cleveland and Max McGuire, Subnautica 2 is the official sequel to the genre-defining Subnautica series, which has sold more than 18.5 million copies worldwide.
