Are we saved, Shepard? Is the Mass Effect TV series not actually currently in the middle of some ill-mannered calibrations?

to be "more appealing to non-gamers," which rightfully sent the fandom into a bit of a tizzy. And funnily enough, this also came as a surprise to the series' screenwriter.

Image via EA/BioWare Daniel Casey, who's worked on projects like F9 and 10 Cloverfield Lane, is heading up the writing of the Mass Effect show in the works at Prime Video. They were asked this morning about the report from April 6, and claimed incredulity.

"So, I can’t talk about the specifics of what I’m writing (I’ve signed NDAs, etc) — but for whatever it’s worth, that article by the Ankler caught me off guard just as much as you," they said in

. "I don’t know where that 'non-gaming audiences' quote came from or who said it, but at no point has that been said to me."

Alright. That doesn't exactly quell every worry that I had, but it's good to know that Casey is working on the script and the reports of the "more appealing to non-gamers" rewrites are apparently untrue, according to them. That still leaves plenty of questions as to what the show will focus on, where and when it will take place, and who it will star. But for now, I'm willing to chalk this change up as a minor W.

The Mass Effect universe is an important one to its fans, including me. For my buck-fifty, I think it's one of the best sci-fi universes ever crafted, and it is rife with potential for expansion into all sorts of time periods and galaxies. If (and that's a Reaper-sized if) done right, it could be absolutely epic.

Hopefully, with less C-suite meddling (so far) and a dedication to the source material, along with the team behind Prime Video's great Fallout series behind it, we could get a Mass Effect adaptation worth entering a Mass Relay for.
