It was a sudden and unplanned departure. The split came a day after Dancey claimed that "I have zero reason to believe that an AI couldn't 'come up with Tiny Towns or Flip Seven or Cubitos'" on social media, centering him and the company in a storm of controversy. He's since said that those remarks were taken out of context. Having interviewed him, I can say one thing - his views on AI are far too big to summarize in a single quote.
