The survivors genre is pretty clearly defined by now, with a clear set of rules that every game is expected to have. One you, endless amounts of them, and a screen packed full of destruction in an ever-escalating blaze of firepower. Which, granted, is kind of like saying an FPS puts you behind the character's eyes while wielding some type of gun. It's technically correct while also an oversimplification, because each new entry brings its own take on the genre's conventions in one way or another. The rules are there to be played with, and while the scenario may be familiar the fun part comes in finding endless new ways to handle it. Grind Survivors knows exactly what genre it's in, if the title wasn't a dead giveaway, but its second playtest is showing a game that's a great combination of meeting player expectations while doing its own thing.
