[STEAM] US government likens illegal immigrants to Halo’s Flood in new ICE recruiting effort

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security's official

account today tweeted a Halo screenshot featuring a call to action to “[finish] this fight” and "destroy the flood" by joining ICE. Anyone familiar with Halo's lore should be able to quickly identify this as the most blood-curdling recruitment bait ever.

The Flood serves as the most dangerous antagonist throughout most of the Halo series, an invasive alien species capable of taking over any other biological organism in a matter of seconds and causing their societies to collapse in not much longer than that. Likening this species to ICE's target, ******** immigrants, through a screenshot from a game that many possible ICE recruits grew up playing, can be considered beyond foul by many who oppose the current administration.

Military organizations have used the popularity of video games to lure young people into enlisting, but comparing migrants to the worst threat of the Halo universe feels like someone in an office was tasked with getting across just the most racist message possible.

The White House also dressed up Trump as Master Chief for Halloween, which is as scary as you'd imagine
And this isn't even the only instance of Halo being used for strange Halloween-time messaging, as just a few hours prior, the White House reacted to a GameStop tweet that declared "the end of the console wars," and accompanied that with an AI-generated (but of course) image of Donald Trump wearing the Master Chief outfit.

I expected more from GameStop, a company that should know how the "console wars" began long before the PS2 and the original Xbox's clash. Still, the worst part is the White House's official account, which thought it a good idea to spearhead a recruitment campaign via the face of an infamous draft dodger.

The third party responsible for a lot of disappointment is

itself, which likely has enough muscle to DMCA these posts out of existence, or to at least convince the White House to remove them. But we've yet to see a reaction from the company, if it is to have one. In any case, this is likely to lose the upcoming neat-looking Halo remake a lot of favor among many of its fans.
