As we wait for CD Projekt Red to release either the next Witcher title or the remaster for the first one, there’s some exciting news that’ll keep fans busy until the next major release. In just a few weeks, the studio will be releasing a mod kit for The Witcher 3, titled REDkit.

It’s amazing what modders have managed to achieve without an extensive mod editor, and with the release of REDkit, the creativity of the modding community can finally be unleashed with no holds barred.

Everyone who owns a copy of the game on PC will be able to download it for free, and it’ll be available on Steam, GOG, and Epic Games. In case you want to access it earlier, you can sign up for the Playtest on Steam. Originally, the community just had the Modkit which let modders change some aspects of this game.

However, this was limited in what it could achieve, as you couldn’t make new constructs. The REDkit is a much larger undertaking; you’ve got a ton more freedom on what you can do. Modders can now create new regions, characters, animations, quests, items, and more.

There’s an endless number of things you could do with it, and the modding community is sure to come out with some unique stuff. If you’ve been looking for an excuse to revisit the game, just wait till someone comes out with some game-changing mods.

The new modding tools will let players accomplish almost anything

With unlimited modding access on the way, there’s no telling what kind of creativity we’re going to see emerge from the game’s community.

One player pointed out that, with the power of AI, people could clone voices from existing characters, and generate scripts and quests that are compatible with the lore, new textures, music, and more. Although, this idea feels like it could violate copyright in some way.

Other users suggested great ideas like replacing ****** with Thomas the Tank Engine or replacing Geralt’s model with Shrek. Like, who doesn’t want either of those things?

If GOG version users don’t have access to the same mods that will be on Steam Workshop, which will likely be where most of the mods are, then this will be useless for GOG version owners.

One user complained that the GOG version of the game would become useless unless they were able to access mods that would be uploaded to the Steam Workshop. However, this isn’t too big a cause of concern. Where mods are uploaded is up to the modders, and typically, they tend to upload their mods in multiple places.
