DAMASCUS , In a move signaling escalating concern over the deteriorating security situation in southern Syria, the Syrian presidency has announced plans to deploy a newly formed military force to the region. The stated aim is to quell the surge in clashes between various armed groups, including remnants of rebel factions, pro-government militias, and increasingly, local civilian defense forces.
