Darkest Dungeon 2 Mod Support Scheduled For June

, the game’s developer said that mod support is “nearing its first deployment” and is planned for June.

“Modding has been an instrumental part of the Darkest Dungeon community for many years, and it’s something that we have been passionate about supporting with Darkest Dungeon II for some time,” Red ***** Studios said.

“The reality is that with DD2’s adoption of a new engine, modding and mod support has required quite a bit more complicated work to enable, as compared to the first game.”

The studio says the current plan is to release mod support for Darkest Dungeon 2 in incremental stages. This method, Red ***** says, will allow players to experience modding for the game sooner rather than later while also allowing the team to get the feedback it needs for future fixes and updates of the feature.

It will also allow the team to continue to work on modding development as well as work on the game’s console release and Kingdoms game mode.

“This first update will tackle the initial mod loading/overwriting logic and Steam workshop integration,” Red ***** says. “These core capabilities will enable modders to edit any of the exposed .csv files (which contain the vast majority of numerical gameplay values) and then structure those changes as Steam workshop packages.

“Content-wise, it will be possible to create custom items from scratch (trinkets, combat items, inn items, stagecoach equipment) and also new hero palettes.”

Lastly, the studio says that the ultimate goal is to support the creation of custom characters. To get there, they will “work closely” with the game’s modding community.
