Helldivers 2 is in the middle of a controversy with the recent Steam and PlayStation Network account linking notice and is facing backlash from players. However, the **** of War creator has said that he doesn’t understand why the players are making such a big issue over this requirement.

Arrowhead announced that players on Steam will need to link their accounts to a PSN account to continue playing the game but players have said that Sony is only in select regions of the world and players outside can not create a PSN account, meaning that they will miss out on the game.

and said that he doesn’t think players are wrong to be annoyed with this account linking requirement, but he cannot understand the reason behind it. Here’s what Jaffe said:

I’m not saying they are wrong to be ****; I honestly don’t understand. Why are PC Helldiver players upset they need to sign up on PSN? Clearly it bugs them, but why?

He further added:

While it is understandable that making a PSN account and linking may not be an issue for many, those residing outside regions where Sony doesn’t allow users to make a PSN account.

It has also been reported by many players who reside in such regions that they tried making an account using a VPN and linking it but instead got their accounts terminated, losing their access to the game.

Players have said that it is because of Sony’s greed.

Players have tried explaining to Jaffe exactly what the reason behind the backlash is. One player said that “it wasn’t a requirement at launch” and if it was, players wouldn’t have an issue. Another player said that this “serves ZERO legitimate reason to exist. It offers no technical benefit [and] no benefit to the consumer.”
