Police investigate multiple fatal shootings on Hampton Avenue in Milwaukee

Authorities are investigating multiple fatal shootings on West Hampton Avenue on Milwaukee’s north side on June 6, according to the mayor.

It wasn’t immediately clear how many victims were involved in the two shootings scenes near North 46th Street at the Stark Food convenience store and another near North 69th Street. The Milwaukee Police Department has not released a statement.

The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office has been called to both scenes, meaning deaths have occurred.

The Milwaukee Fire Department said three people were transported to a hospital from the scene near 46th Street. It’s unknown how many people were transported from 69th Street.

Emergency medical services responded at 4:15 p.m. to 46th Street and 4:21 p.m. to 69th Street.

Joseph T., who asked his last name not be used, was parking his car near his daughter’s residence when he heard at least “seven or eight shots” ring out before about eight to 10 people began scrambling from the doorway of the Stark Foods II store, which are a chain of convenience stores on the city’s north side.

“One person ran to me, where I was standing at, because she had a little girl,” the 45-year-old said. “(A victim) had a flesh wound in her leg, through and through.”

“One of the people that was shot, ended up dying,” he added. “I believe it was a shooter.”

Mayor Cavalier Johnson said he is monitoring the situation and has received information from police.

“The fire department has provided preliminary information regarding the emergency medical response, and the police have shared early aspects of the criminal investigation,” he said.

“I am appalled by the senseless use of firearms to settle disagreements. There is no situation in which that is appropriate.

“To anyone inclined to shamelessly shoot at another human being, your actions will land you in prison. To everyone in our city, I ask that you take all possible steps that you can to reduce gun violence.

“In these most recent incidents, I have every reason to believe those responsible will be brought to justice.”
