Intricacies aside, Mario Kart World also features a ton of accessibility options to help gamers ease into the title. However, some of these options can often cause issues, such as the dreaded Smart Steering ability.

How to disable Smart Steering in Mario Kart World

Mario Kart World has Smart Steering enabled by default, which can be quite an annoyance. In short, Smart Steering can be best compared to an autopilot function of sorts, which helps players stay on track during intense matches.

While helpful, it may not be desirable for many players, especially those planning to get sweaty in competitive runs or those seeking a finer degree of control in general. As such, it might be a good idea to entirely disable Smart Steering in the game and rely on the more traditional manual controls instead.

Thankfully, Disabling Smart Steering is very easy—all you need to do is press X during the selection screen for your vehicle of choice. Doing so will entirely disable the function before you start a match, and it is the best way to go about it.

Assuming you missed the option earlier, fret not, for there is a way to toggle Smart Steering even while mid-race. To do so, pause your game first. Next, head on over to the menu and press the requisite button to disable the feature entirely.

Disabling Smart Steering can feel a bit jarring at first, so it might be a good idea to try out a few games without it enabled to get a feel of the controls first.
