Timothy Shoulders, 41, is charged with ******* and felonious assault in connection with the killing of 26-year-old Terrell Howell. Shoulders appeared in Hamilton County Municipal Court on June 6 before Judge Bernie Bouchard, who set bond at $1.5 million. It started as a simple property exchange on the morning of June 5, when Howell went to Shoulders’ home on Byrd Avenue to retrieve personal property, investigators wrote in an affidavit. Howell started collecting his belongings while inside the residence and an argument ensued, with Shoulders pulling a gun after Howell requested his wallet, investigators said. Timothy Shoulders, 41, appears in Hamilton County Municipal Court on June 6, 2025, after his arrest on charges of ******* and felonious assault. The charges stem from a fatal shooting at Shoulders’ home in Lincoln Heights. Witnesses told police that Howell questioned why the other man had a weapon before Shoulders fired a single round, striking Howell in the face. Howell died of his injuries at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. The two men had been in a relationship that recently ended, according to investigators. Hamilton County Assistant Prosecutor David Hickenlooper said they lived together. Hickenlooper added that there was no physical fight before the shooting, just a “back and forth” argument. Investigators said that Shoulders’ admission to the shooting was captured on Hamilton County Sheriff’s deputies’ body cameras. Shoulders has worked as a caregiver for the last three-and-a-half years and has no prior felony criminal history, only misdemeanors, an attorney representing Shoulders said in court. A man who identified himself as Shoulders’ uncle stood up in the courtroom to tell the judge that the shooting was done in self-defense; however, Kelsey Carpenter, his public defender, declined to comment on any potential criminal defenses. A grand jury is expected to hear Shoulders’ case by June 16 to decide whether he will be prosecuted in Hamilton County Common Pleas Court, where felonies are tried.
