The Nintendo Switch 2 finally came out yesterday, nearly a decade after the best-selling Switch. But what should’ve been a day of celebration turned into a disaster for many fans over in New York’s Staten Island.

In an almost unbelievable turn of events, GameStop employees at one store have reportedly punctured the screens of multiple brand-new Switch 2 consoles by stapling receipts directly into their retail boxes. The incident has gone viral, and the weekend might just be ruined for those affected.

According to several social media posts and customer complaints, the issue started during the midnight launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 on June 5. Dozens of buyers at the 1756 Forest Avenue GameStop in Staten Island were handed their pre-orders with receipts stapled onto the top of the boxes. And things went downhill from there.

According to u/Konflick, the store’s air conditioning had broken down, making it difficult for adhesive receipts to stick due to the humidity. They then revealed that the employees were told to staple the receipts instead. There was no bad intention behind it. Konflick added that the store manager was visibly upset and apologetic, noting, “She said she was probably gonna get fired.”
