This Gatlinburg video shows what NOT to do around a ****** bear

This is a tutorial on what NOT to do around ****** bears.

This video shows a man tempting fate and a ****** bear at a Gatlinburg riverbank on May 25. While the bear is busy catching a fish in the river, a man approaches the bear, getting just feet away from the animal.

While the man eventually retreated, he was dangerously close to the ****** bear.

Viewers lean over a nearby railing, watching the events unfold. Soon the man joins the onlookers to continue observing the bear, who appears to be enjoying his meal.

However, the man does not enjoy the safety of the railing for long. He climbs over the barrier, just barely hanging on to the railing and has a stare-down with the bear from above.

If you’re in Gatlinburg, this is not how experts recommend you behave around ****** bears. You should always maintain your distance from the animal and make loud noises to scare away the bear,

to help keep people safe in a ****** bear encounter, depending on where you see the bear.

If the bear is in your backyard, remain a safe distance away and make loud noises to scare it away. Be sure it’s gone before letting any pets out or removing items that might have attracted it.

If the bear is in the woods, back away slowly and quietly. Never run, as that might trigger the bear’s chase response.

If you are approached by the bear, stand your ground and try to appear as large as possible. Make loud noises.

If a ****** bear charges you, use bear spray. If it makes contact, fight back using your surroundings. Do not play dead.
