Arkansas Attorney General Tim Griffin announces conviction of Heber Springs woman for exploitation of an impaired person

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Arkansas Attorney General Tim Griffin said a Heber Springs woman was convicted of taking advantage of an impaired person.

Griffin said 30-year-old Sharon “Kaleigh” Hood of Heber Springs pleaded guilty to a single count of felony exploitation of an endangered or impaired person on May 29. She was sentenced to five years of probation, a $1,000 fine, court costs and $700 in restitution, along with an order for 40 hours of community service, he said.

Officials said Hood worked at a Heber Springs nursing home and used an elderly patient’s banking information to send herself money through online payments.

“My office will not tolerate those who exploit positions of trust to prey on our vulnerable population,” Griffin said. “We will continue to pursue justice for victims and hold bad actors accountable.”

Griffin commended the work of his office’s staff and its Medicaid Fraud Control Unit, as well as 16th Judicial District Prosecutor Drew Smith.
